- A Paradigm Shift -

One night out and how! I have been thinking about watching it and I am getting a chance that too, the last show unleashing at 10:40 pm, on a Sunday and I have to rush to office next Morning! Sure it must be tempting enough to get me out of my cosy one room home! I love things when presented otherwise!

DEV D - it was a hell of an experience and what better to be a witness to the so called paradigm shift in the way movies are made out in BOLLYWOOD! Yeah I have watched all the movies where Abhay Deol has brought something new to the audience every time, yes every time and he has created a space for himself and his kind (I could generalise it as the new kind of medium, Indian Cinema has accepted and applauded), Directed by Anuraag Kashyap, yes we have heard this name earlier as well, BLACK FRIDAY, NO SMOKING, LAST TRAIN TO MAHAKAALI (Short film) to name a few...

A guy named Devender Dhillon returns from abroad (London - As per new Airline Fares, you also could sum up a weekend trip) where he has studied to his native place, what better than our land of brutish ideologies being served out like the pious sermons of Prabhaat Pheris eventually to meet his childhood muse PARO whom he had seen topless, courtesy the VIRGIN PARO herself, who is so naive and chilled about claiming him to be the only man who could do anything with her, on the very stale face of her parents... Does a single girl brought up in a serene culture as it is claimed atleast in INDIA, could sum up the strength enough to mutter this,"देव दे सिवा किसी नु वि हाथ नि लाण देना मैंने, जो वि करेगा करेगा!" a bit out of reality, but who is complaining about it! Are you???

Again the Man ego brings clouds of suspision and nostalgia here in this lovely going relation, alas on contrary the man himself who wants to unleash his manliness over this village damsel who has kept herself clean till date, except touching herself!!! is made to turn other way believing his ears, what he has heard about this undampening soul for sex from a labour, who claims to have fallen on bed for two days after a wild romp with the unmannered lass, who is so hungry for SEX, that this labour got hurt at a so privvy location of which every man boasts!

Now what better to turn to than a woman if a man already loves chemistry and chemical compositions, ALCOHOL - VODKA instead of WHISKEY as DEV's father claims, his son has lost sense and has turned towards size '0' than size '12' and prefers vodka over whiskey! He is such a understanding father that every lovelorn would crave for one such Man who could be termed as a Strict in childhood but a Freindly Fatheer in grown up years!!

Also, it has been very clearly shown how hypocrite a father could be as the story moves further for the second fidle (Oh, how HOT she looks, obviously Leni is the BESSSTT....) who names herself as CHANDA, wow and the triology is complete for a modern version of 'DEVDAS' earlier portrayed by the potent of Cinema, Dilip Kumar Sahab and later by this smart looking guy, who claims, people often say that he can't act! Shah Rukh Khan..But this Dev D turns the table over them and brings out clearly, why a man cannot be expected to play second fidle in his woman sexual life and why he should be the only one making so called LOVE to her (his woman). It is all solitarily about SEX and SEX only....

Chanda is a character brought out so well by this young lady who was selected for the role just because she could essay the School Girl Chapter of her life to the closest of the imagination of the director, A. Kashyap. But we should keep an eye on this lady she could fool you around with her erotic voice in as many languages as a person could count in a brothel and not to be surprised by the dialect and accent as well! Awesome fieldwork by A. Kashyap.

This lady enters this colourful world of Wigs and Costumes and leaves as well at the behest of the last but not the least character to complimet the longer than life trio of DEV, PARO and CHANDA, this eternal sad side of the love story stands CHUNNI, who brings her in and also makes her mind up to continue study and accept the best and the wealthiest CAKE that would come her way and also passes her the RING that DEV has so dearly wished to be in the fingers of PARO, a symbol of man ego.... isn't it!

Snorting coke, drinking neat inns and swallowing Ecstasy pills also has some side effects without which this movie would not have taken more than an hour to be made and shown as well and it moves pretty nicely on!

But the best part of this movie was its climax where the Man learns his part of lessons and returns as love lorn to CHANDA who always visits one MOMO SERVER, strange isn't it? "सुबह का भूला अगर शाम को घर जाता है तो उसे भूला नही कहते" And here the love story starts again for this guy, for which our DEV D has taken so many rides up and down the lifesycle that were inserted again in the movie just to make it lengthy more than just a short film, a form of art at which A Kashyap is excellent.

*Some FACTS as CONFIRMED from the movie:

1. A guy finally finds LOVE aka SEX if he is heading in that direction!
2. A guy could never make LOVE to woman, whom he has never seen completely!
3. Vodka is better than Whiskey aroun Delhi in WINTER's!
4. A woman would hide her eyes while making love, from the man if he is not her LOVE!
5. One should not trust anyone, but thyself even if you are offering the drinks!
6. LOVE can find you anywhere, even if you are living in ghettos!

It takes time to find true love, three reel lives for DEV D who was delivered with, what he always wished for, by A. Kashyap....

The Last Lear

A Shakespeare recluse, eccentric, veteran stage actor named Harish (Harry for short) is approached by an equally Cinema passionate Director named Siddharth and it is there story than. Harry is close to perfection when he is delivering dialogues from his past stage excursions and at times he is so captivating that no one else is left with anything else than to get lost in his Emotions, Expression, Hand gestures, Body posture, Physical movements, and in all Harry superble played by Amitabh Bacchan....

To impress is one thing but to leave an ever lasting impression is another, Harry's superb talent seems to be fouled by many other characters and there too long presence on the screen behaving as curtains to hide the greatest performer of the movie. And Bang when Harry comes on screen, people come close to the edge of their so comfy sofas of the Cinema Halls of these days which come for a price anything in between Rs. 125 to Rs. 500 for 2.5 hours, and Harry does leaves an impression, a solid one of an egoistic, self centered, too bold for his age, someone who can't live without his crystal glass of Alcohol (another way of distracting people by continuously rolling it), with over sized robes presenting himself not to be a character in this movie but a character from the Shakespeare Era... representing the old time of Unighted Kingdom very well and majestically for sure. Harry must be praised for his efforts in delivering the part of Prospero from 'The Tempest' already played by him across many cities, and he is awesome in that scene in the movie.

My personal opinion on this movie is that Harry was underused and instead of exploiting/justifying his talent he beared resemblence to a person who is a puppet in the hands of Siddharth or moresover Rituparno Ghosh to be precise. It would have been much better, and scintillating to see Harry perform all alone in some part of the movie.. But Alas!

When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes

I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featur’d like him, like him with friends possess’d,
Desiring this man’s art, and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee,—and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remember’d such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

It's time for me to leave Harry to rest for some time so that, he could make a comback entry for an award in maybe a next film...

The End!
